2023 Cohort

Ocean Impact Organisation is proud to present the Ocean Impact Accelerator Program 2023 cohort.

Each of the six startups selected into the program is addressing a complex ocean challenge with an innovative solution to help improve the health of the ocean, climate, and broader environment.

2023 Cohort

Aquacultr

Port Stephens | Australia
aquacultr.com

Aquacultur is reinventing aquaculture for the better. This Australian startup addresses the impact of the global demand for seafood on oceans and waterways by enabling scalable and sustainable seafood production with its land-based Smart Aquatic Farms.

Aquacultur’s modular Recirculated Aquaculture System (RAS) provides a closed-loop method of farming fish in freshwater pods where water is purified & reused continuously. This reduces water & energy consumption, land footprint, and environmental impact in comparison with traditional aquaculture.

Azul Bio

New York City | United States
azulbio.com

Azul Bio helps give ocean life immunity to human impact. Their microbial-based treatments - or probiotics - leverage nature to address the impacts of climate change and pollution on marine ecosystems, such as the bleaching of coral reefs.

Azul Bio’s products help restore ocean productivity by breaking down contaminants at scale and making coral resistant to heat and disease. Beyond coral, Azul Bio’s probiotic development pipeline can address an array of industries ranging from aquaculture to wastewater remediation.

Clean Earth Rovers

Cincinnati | United States
cleanearthrovers.com

Clean Earth Rovers automate coastal water management. This marine robotics and water quality data company is tackling pollutants in coastal waterways by providing scalable low-cost IoT monitoring and cleanup solutions.

Their autonomous ocean-cleaning robot The Rover is capable of cleaning water of debris, oil spills, and removing algal blooms. While their low-voltage, solar-powered DataPod can monitor water quality, capture geo-tagged and time-stamped data, and even detect when harmful algal blooms (HABs) are coming.

ecoSPEARS

Orlando | United States
ecospears.com

ecoSPEARS extracts and eliminates ‘forever chemicals’ from the environment. These include PCBs, PFAS, and other Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) that don’t degrade naturally, contaminating waterways, wildlife, habitats, and people.

ecoSpears develops and deploys groundbreaking technologies to eliminate ‘forever chemicals’ from the environment using non-thermal, non-combustion solutions. This cost-effective alternative can be used on-site, and mitigates thousands of CO2 emissions in comparison to current methods, protecting people and planet.

Hullbot

Sydney, Australia
hullbot.com

Hullbot builds robots for healthy oceans. This Sydney-based startup addresses the massive global issue of biofouling on vessels with its autonomous, in-water robot which inspects, maps, and cleans boat hulls.

Hullbot’s system results in reduced GHG emissions, increased efficiency, and the prevention of invasive species transport, whilst providing an alternative to harmful antifouling paint.

Shark Stop

Byron Bay, Australia
sharkstop.co

Shark Stop is the only scientifically-proven shark bite resistant wetsuit on the market. The precision polymer fibre technology can reduce the depth of a great white shark bite, preventing the catastrophic blood loss and loss of limbs that cause death in many shark bite incidents.

The technology has a strength-to-weight ratio 50% greater than Kevlar and has been tested by some of Australia’s leading shark scientists. Shark Stop also utilises a bio neoprene material, a lower carbon footprint alternative to regular neoprene. Shark Stop aims to empower everyday ocean goers to appreciate the ocean in harmony with marine life.
