SafetyNet Technologies designs and builds solutions that enable sustainable practices in the fishing industry. SafetyNet’s work enables “precision fishing”, underpinning a sustainable fishing sector that can supply the food and financial needs of a growing global population, in balance with a thriving ocean.
SafetyNet’s flagship product is Pisces, a simple to use, affordable, LED (light emitting diode) device that retrofits onto any existing fishing net. It helps fishermen attract the size and species of fish they’re licensed to catch, while repelling non-target species. SafetyNet claims that Pisces can reduce bycatch by up to 90%.
Take a Deep Dive
Mission: To design and build devices to increase the selectivity of commercial fishing practices, making the industry more sustainable and reducing the chance of bycatch.
Solution: SNTech have built Pisces, a bycatch reduction shield, which enables ‘precision fishing’ and underpins a sustainable fishing sector. Pisces is simple to use, affordable and has an LED light emitting device that retrofits onto any existing fishing net. It helps fishermen attract the size and species of fish they’re licensed to catch while repelling non-target species, acting like an emergency escape sign. A standard-sized fishing net uses around 10 Pisces lights (one kit). Pisces can reduce bycatch by up to 90%. This technology for precision fishing supplies the food and financial needs of a growing global population, whilst reducing the negative impacts of bycatch for a healthy ocean. SNTech has designed and built this valued solution, which enables for greater sustainability practices within the fishing industry.
How does the ocean inspire you? “The ocean is the silent, non-judgemental balance to everything humans do on land. We often forget that because we don't see what it does for us, and what we do to it in return. The ocean is an inspirational benevolent entity of which we should take more notice, and offer more care.” - Dan Watson, CEO
