Take a Deep Dive
Mission: To restore our world's dying and damaged reefs, by growing diverse and resilient corals and transplanting them into threatened reefs.
Solution: Coral Vita collects diverse coral fragments to grow and raise in high-tech marine farms until mature. Their microfragmenting proess allows for accelerated growth of corals up to 50 times that of nature. By collecting a wide range of important coral species, it also increases the resilience of the reef against climate change, a critical step to ensuring restoration's viability.
Coral Vita sells reef restoration services, provides community education, and also generates revenue through eco-tourism, coral adoption and restoration diving certifications. They help to preserve the oceans biodiversity, a lifesource for many. Coral Vita's vision is to establish a global network of large-scale, land-based coral farms in every country and territory with coral reefs.
How does the ocean inspire you? “I've been a scuba diver since I was 13. There is no place I'd rather spend my time than underwater. I never grew up imagining I'd be a coral farmer. But as I studied climate change and continued watching ecosystems die in front of my eyes, I knew I had to do something. I'm passionate about protecting coral reefs and the communities that depend on them (along with mangroves, sea grass beds, and more), and will do everything in my power to ensure the wonder, inspiration, biodiversity, and benefits of healthy oceans are preserved for future generations.” - Sam Teicher, Co-founder and Chief Reef Officer.
