‘PITCHFEST 2020 SERIES’ EP. 9 - ANDREW RELLA FROM ECONCRETE TECH
In episode 9 of the Ocean Impact Podcast ‘Pitchfest 2020 Series’ Nick Chiarelli speaks with Andrew Rella, Global Director of Engineering at ECOncrete Tech.
ECOncrete, a Pitchfest 2020 Finalist, have developed concrete technology that combines high structural performance with ecological benefits to restore and regenerate marine biodiversity.
The industrialisation and development of coastlines around the world has led to a drastic reduction in important shoreline habitat. By developing artificial habitat using bio-enhancing concrete ECOncrete can both restore habitat and protect coastlines from the increasing impacts of climate change.
ECOncrete Tech offers a suite of high-performance environmentally sensitive concrete solutions that enhance the biological and ecological value of urban, coastal, and marine infrastructure while increasing their strength and durability. In addition to the ecological and biological advantages, ECOncrete’s technology also creates an active carbon sink through the growth of calcifying organisms that thrive on the structures.
This podcast episode is dedicated to Dr Shimrit Perkol-Finkel, the co-founder and CEO of ECOncrete, who tragically passed away in early March 2021.
Dr Perkol-Finkel was a widely celebrated marine biologist and ecologist who specialized in the sustainable management of urban marine habitats. Passionate about reducing the ecological footprint of coastal and marine infrastructure, she spent the past 20 years eco-engineering innovative concrete products to transform coastlines. She also defied the norm of being a leader within a male-dominated industry. Dr Perkol-Finkel was a Co-founder and CEO, a wife and a Mum and she will be sorely missed by many.
We hope you enjoy this discussion with Andrew Rella on The Ocean Impact Podcast - Pitchfest 2020 series.
