Position Description 

Communications and Social Media Coordinator

Reporting to: Head of Marketing and Community

Work location: Virtual (proximity/ ability to travel to Sydney and/or Byron Bay, Australia)

Salary: $60,500 (incl. superannuation) 

Hours: Full-time, 38 hours/ wk, every second Friday off, 5 weeks annual leave

Ocean Impact Organisation (OIO) is an Australian non-profit organisation with a purpose to transform ocean health through inspiration, innovation and good business. OIO is Australia’s first ocean impact innovation ecosystem and startup accelerator. We help people start, grow, and invest in businesses that positively impact the ocean.

In a busy world, saturated with content, we require communications that ‘cut-through’ the noise to inspire innovation, investment and action to transform the health of the ocean. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the ocean, conservation and accelerating ‘good business’ for a better future. 

The ideal candidate will be excited about the future of OIO and the impact the organisation intends to make. Entering the organisation at an early stage of its journey, the candidate will be motivated to work closely with the Founders to optimise the organisation’s communications; contribute to its future success and develop your own professional skills within the organisation and the growing ‘ocean impact’ innovation ecosystem globally.

WHO YOU WILL REPORT TO 

The Communications and Social Media Coordinator will work closely with OIO’s Co-founder and Head of Marketing and Community Tim Silverwood. Tim is a seasoned communications expert with over 15 years of experience in the conservation sector. Tim built and led non-profit Take 3 for the Sea (2009-2020) and has an unwavering passion for cut-through communications that improve outcomes for people, places and the planet. 


THE ROLE

The Communications and Social Media Coordinator will plan, develop, deliver and oversee digital communications across a range of platforms to optimise OIO’s online performance and help ensure our online community grows in line with key performance indicators (KPIs).


The role will suit a passionate and skilled digital communications specialist with experience in: social media management and moderation; content creation; graphic design (eg. Canva); video creation/ editing; email marketing; podcasting (desired but not essential); website updates (Squarespace) and other relevant tasks. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinating OIO’s communications campaigns and weekly delivery to increase supporters, increase brand awareness, reach new audiences and achieve KPIs.

  • Overseeing OIO’s social media accounts including: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and other platforms as required. 

  • Track, measure, and report  on communications performance and making key recommendations. Eg. Google Analytics/ AdWords, social media promotions.

  • Creating cut-through content to optimise and enhance OIO’s communications and online performance.

  • Maintaining and updating the OIO website.

  • Producing email newsletters. 

  • Assisting with communications to OIO key stakeholder groups e.g. members, donors, startups, mentors, corporate partners.

  • Assisting with press approaches and enquiries.

  • Virtual and physical event planning.

  • Other duties as requested by your manager.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 

  1. Experience in social media management, digital communications, graphic design, content creation, digital marketing and other relevant areas. 

  2. Experience developing and coordinating communications campaigns. 

  3. Creative, innovative, and critical thinker able to work with autonomy and in a team environment. 

  4. Self-motivated with demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to respond rapidly when required. 

  5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team, across teams and experience with stakeholder management. 

  6. A genuine desire to work on environmental campaigns with a focus on ocean conservation. A passion and desire for accelerating ‘good business’ for a better future.

  7. Previous experience within fundraising, a NFP or NGO would be advantageous.
